Lovely Five-Minute DIY Christening Gift

thea3

I’ve been away too long. Mama was home for a very short vacation and we had some family matters to attend to. But all is well. Crazy long days and still got to do some crafts and tried new recipes.

Yesterday was my niece’ Christening and I got her a diaper bag in dainty yellow and shoes for her tiny feet. But I wanted to make something handmade for her too.

I had no excuse not to make something handmade. I had a little bit of time to make one. A few minutes actually before I had to leave the house! What can you do with under five minutes that’s pretty for a baby girl?

I made last-minute DIY baby headbands. I’m sorry, I’m bad. I know! Pictures are not of good quality either. Just from instagram. I told you I was scrambling. My apologies.

thea1

One is a Felt headband. I hope it’s not obvious that I put them together just yesterday morning . This is one craft that you can literally do in five minutes!  You can check my tutorial here.

The other one is just a fabric flower that I put together the night before. I’ll try to put the tutorial of this fabric flower as soon as I can.

If you need some last minute DIY gift for little girls, you can easily follow the tutorial and your friends won’t know you put them together the night before.

P.S. If you’re from Cebu and don’t want to scramble like me, and don’t feel crafty, you can go ahead and email me about my handmade creations marrylallwrite@yahoo.com or send me a message on my facebook page Marryl’s Arts and Crafts.

DIY Tissue Paper Carnations

favor10

For those of you who emailed and asked what projects I did for my daughter’s 5th birthday, here it is.

I was looking for a new idea for loot bags and here’s what I came up with.

favor1

I bought an inexpensive basket at Carbon Market for P8 each. You should be able to find it in any craft store. I stuffed it with loots and wrap it in cellophane paper. Now This looks really simple and so I thought of adding an accent so it wont look boring and so I can easily distinguish which one is for the boys and for the girls.

I thought of making my own tissue paper flowers. I don’t know if there are other tutorials online on this but this one’s what I came up with and made my own templates. You may print it in its exact size or make it a little bigger. (Please do give me a link if you’re using this and posting it on your blog).

Using pattern # 2, trace it on any colored tissue and cut as many of this as you can. This will be the petals.  For 1 carnation, I think I used about 15 of #2. Trace #1 on a cardstock and this will be the base.

Taking 1 tissue petal, fold it in half, like so.

Next, fold it again or scrunch it in the center like so. Make as many of this as you can.

favor3

Taking the circle base, glue the bottom of the petals like so. Don’t glue them tightly to each other since you’ll have to fluff them out. I think I used about 9 petals for the first outer circle.

favor4

This is how they would look like if the base was turned upside down.

favor5

make another layer (inner circle) of petals. I used 4-5 petals for this inner circle. The middle i think I used 2-3 petals. Fluff them out.

favor6

This is how they looked like when they’re done. So easy, right? I made this while watching TV :) The purple ones are for the boys’ loot bags and the pink are for the girls.

PicMonkey Collage

Attach it to the wrapped basket. I used curly ribbons to tie the basket.

Here they are. Pretty! It was a hit at my daughter’s school. Her classmates were excited to get one since they can see through the loots in the basket. It looked good in pictures with the purple and pink carnations.

Of Dreams And A Red Braided Suede Bracelet

I haven’t been doing a good job posting my craft projects that I did recently. I’ve been down with the flu and have been swamped with paper works so many pictures to upload. I told you I’m really bad with uploading pictures, it takes me forever to upload.

The husband and I have been sharing a lot of stories about our plans and ideas, mostly mine, haha. Ever since I started this blog, it has allowed me to continue what I started last 2007 at Multiply.com. To keep me busy while on a five-month bed rest on my pregnancy with Lauren, I started a little blog which was my playground for my crafts and cooking. It all started there and I have been crafting ever since. I had to literally stop crafting when I worked in the US. Now, I am slowly reviving that passion for crafts and cooking.

I had another Aha! Moment recently and it is so liberating to be able to arrive at such self-discovery! But the big question now is how to translate that Aha! moment to reality.

Everything is all up in the air in as far as my plans for the little online shop is concerned. It has been that way for the longest time now. I teach in the mornings, thus I cannot seem to go all the way in as far as my little shop is concerned. I guess it will remain that way for now. However, I seem to be in a very fortunate place to be able to do what I love which is teaching little ones in the mornings and do crafts, take care of my little online shop and my  princess in the afternoons. Didn’t I tell you I have one of the best jobs in the world?

I have something that I’m pretty excited but still, it’s in the works. I wish I had more time to prepare for it but I will let you know when everything’s done.

Meantime, that picture above is what I did last week inspired by the Pink Braided Suede Bracelet that got me featured at Tipnut.com. Click here for my tutorial.

You all have a great week ahead of you! Here’s to living our dreams and passion.

Rolled Felt Flower Tutorial

I have a love affair with Felt and whenever I take out my stash of these pretty fabrics, I just have to make something and almost always, something really simple and quick comes out really beautiful. I kid you not! You have to try one of my tutorials and see how crafty you can be with this fabric.

Here’s another Felt Flower tutorial that you can try and just go crazy with them. I love these flowers as a brooch for large ones and headband or clips for smaller ones.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 8 inches x 2 inches of felt fabric
  • glue gun
  • brooch pin or alligator clips

Cut a strip of felt fabric 8 inches x 2 inches. Fold it lengthwise and dab hot glue. Press it lightly.

It should look like this.

Snip strips about an eighth of an inch thick leaving just a few centimeters to the edge.

Dab hot glue on one end and start rolling.

Your rolled fabric will start to look like a  little flower.

Cover the bottom with a round felt fabric.

Here’s the rolled felt flowers that I made in light blue and pink. Aren’t they just pretty? These are just adorable as brooches or hair clips. It’s super easy and quick to make.

Please show me some pictures if you’re making these and a pingback would be very much appreciated.

Happy crafting!

So Easy, so Lovely Fabric Flower Tutorial

This could be the easiest, prettiest, daintiest (Ok, that’s probably too much. Let’s stick with easiest) craft you will have finished and will definitely use. I kid you not!

I got a request to do a fabric flower tutorial. I just realized I haven’t posted it here, nor have I posted any of my fabric flowers except for the Felt flowers. I did post it in my Facebook account about a year ago. Never had the time to share it with you guys, my apologies. But here it is.

You will need the following:

  • Synthetic fabric (organza works well)
  • tea light
  • scissors
  • cup for template
  • needle and thread
  • beads

Trace the top and bottom of the cup on to the fabric. I traced 3 small circles and 3-4 big ones and cut them. You may want to cut outside the line for some of the circles so you can have 6-7 circles in different sizes.

Optional: If you prefer the blue fabric flower, cut 5 slits about half an inch.

Using the tea light, singe or melt the fabric by holding it about an inch or two  above the flame. I keep rotating the fabric to make sure I don’t get burned and the fabric does not catch fire. Be careful when you do this as some fabrics will easily catch fire. Continue to singe all the way around.

Your circles will look like these.

Stack the singed fabrics from largest to smallest so that the smallest circle will be on top.

Sew all the circles together using a needle and thread. I added some pearl beads to the center of the flower. You may use buttons or seed beads.

Here’s the finished fabric flower. Sew easy!

I added a piece of felt and brooch pin to the back and used it to add color to my bolero shrug. What do you guys think?

As always, please do share some of your finished product. I would appreciate a ping back/ link back.

Happy crafting!
