New Addition to the Family

editjoann

My Mama is home from Michigan for a very short visit because of my brother’s condition. On a lighter note, it meant some new craft supplies for me. In my part of the world, we don’t have Michael’s, Jo-Ann’s, AC Moore or Hobby Lobby. Yes, it’s so sad that’s why I wish I will have my own craft store here in Cebu someday…I dream big :)

My loot came in this pretty bag from Jo-Ann’s. I liked the tape measure-like handle. Sorry for the instagrammed pictures. Still too tired and lazy to take out the heavy dslr.

After what seemed like forever, my cuttlebug is finally home. I love, love love my Cuttlebug! I’ll keep you guys posted and maybe show you a video what this little toy can do.

What I usually do for craft supplies and products that aren’t found here in the Philippines, I  ask my Mama or brother buy it for me or purchase it online and ship it there in our place in Michigan and they send it to me or send it through balikbayan box (which takes forever!). I get mails regularly from Craft stores like Jo-ann’s or Michael’s and I use their coupons. These embossing folders and dies were on clearance at just $1.97 at Jo-Ann’s and the Cuttlebug was I think 50% off using the coupon at Michael’s. But I think you can use Michael’s coupon at Jo-Ann’s too.

These unassuming little containers are my newest prized possession :) I will make magic with them pretty soon. Come back and I’ll keep you posted what these are.

That’s why I enjoy DIY & Crafts so much. I get excited what I can do with stuff. If you’re not into crafting, you should definitely try it. If you’re in other parts of the world like the US, Singapore, UK where you have Craft stores all over, you have no excuse not to be doing DIY & Crafts.

What’s your current project?

Beading is Therapeutic

It’s been more than a week since my brother was in a motorcycle accident and he was in Intensive Care for 5 days. It was difficult and still is for the family but it makes a whole lot of difference when you have family and friends who extend their help and words of comfort. It means so much to us.  Mama had to come home from Michigan just to be with my brother. It may be rough for all of us but it made me see how important it is to have a good relationship with family and relatives. I feel so blessed and loved to be surrounded by people who truly cares for us.

It was so nice seeing my cousins, aunts and uncles. My brother is still in the hospital but thank God he’s now conscious. While at the hospital, I brought some craft tools and some bead stash so I can keep myself busy and avoid worrying too much. However, I couldn’t really bead as much. It felt like the first time I learned to do this craft, struggling but I just had to keep trying. It helped me get my mind off my brother’s condition and my tired body. During the first five days in the hospital, I was always running up and down the stairs buying medicine and all that.   Beading in the hospital (or sometimes just staring at my bead stash coz I was too tired to even pick them up) helped me a little to relax.  I did however finish an order of the ceramic bead necklace.  I think I posted this necklace that I made for myself and somebody asked me if I was selling it. I still need to do another one and a bracelet to match it. Hopefully I’ll be able to finish this order soon.

Thank you to my clients who were very understanding and patient. I’ll be working on them this week. I’m starting to find my inspiration again. This time, it’s not about color combination or texture and material. More importantly and surprisingly, I am inspired because of what I went through the past week.

My daughter always asks me, “What’s the big idea?” The big idea is to show Love and to experience Love.

Thank you for all your prayers.

I remain,

Marryl

The Hunt For The Little Black Book Is On

My annual ‘hunt-for-the-little-black-book‘ is ON. If you’ve read that post I did last year, you know it’s this time of the year I look for the notebook.

I carry a little black book in my purse. You have to read the post here to know the reasons why. Come to think of it though, my reasons are a little bit different now. Sure, I want to write my ideas for my little online shop there or some of my bucket lists, etc. That sounds really great but it seems like this year I’ve gone from happy, crafty, do-it-all mommy to happy, contented, still-trying-to-be-crafty AND REALISTIC mommy.

Why the shift? I’ve realized that work keeps me from doing a lot of the things I’ve been planning to do this year: for the little online shop and for the family. It’s really a challenge to squeeze everything in my daily schedule but I still manage.

It looks to me now that keeping all the lists makes me look like I have everything together, NOT! :) Nevertheless, it helps me keep everything in a wait list sort of way. At least! The more staright-forward reason really — I have been humbled. Officially I am now admitting that I just might me getting just a little bit older. Hence, FORGETFUL! Nope, the tablets do not work for me to remind me where to go or what to buy in the groceries.

I have to see my handwriting, feel something that’s tangible. In other words, I might be the only one in this digital age tablets who still carries a little black book in my purse to jot things down every so often. When I’m lost in a bookstore and read something I want to remember, or got an idea for a jewelry or a craft I want to do, I grab my little black book and doodle something. Yes, I just might be the only human being still doing that.

Thus, my little black book is my sought-after personal year-ender event. I just made that up but if the celebrities and everyone else has some sort of year eneder events, then this is among mine, I know! (Tee Hee!).

The Father’s Day Surprise Was Discovered Too Soon!

Last night, my four-year-old daughter and I were in her room giggling and busy writing some notes on colored paper. The room was filled with balloons. We were busy preparing our father’s Day surprise for my hubby. Bea could hardly contain herself. She was too busy counting all the balloons. She had just finished making her Father’s Day cards and was about to tell her daddy about it had I not stopped her and she just said “Oh, it’s a surprise!”, ‘Shhhhh!” I was too busy writing down reasons why we love Daddy Tristan. The surprise was to have about two dozen balloons to be placed in the dining and living room area. The balloons have “Happy Father’s Day!” on it and the other side says “Daddy Tristan, # 1 Dad!”

The door suddenly opened and guess who came in? It’s him alright! hahaha! For the life of me, I forgot to lock the door!

Oh well, hubby played along and went downstairs before the whole surprise was ruined. I did see him smiling when he closed the door.

Early this morning this was what greeted my husband. balloons all over the house that had notes on it. On the papers were reasons why we love him dearly. Some of it had prayers for my Papa, my father-in-law and all the other men in our lives.

That note says “you have farmer’s feet like Bea”. We have this joke In the house that Daddy (my hubby) and Bea both have farmer’s feet (they both have wide feet) :)

That’s what my daughter made for her daddy.

We wrote down things that we love about my husband and Yes, that includes him snoring!

He never fails to make us laugh.

We had three cuppies: one was for my hubby and the other two were for my Papa and my father-in-law. My Papa lives in Michigan and my father-in-law is in Saudi Arabia so we’re doing this for them as well.

Aren’t they just adorable?

We thought we might release the balloons outside.

Here we go! Up, up and away!

We definitely had the best Father’s Day Surprise, didn’t we?
